Give In-Kind

All of us need the basic building blocks of food and water, shelter, and health to survive. But what happens when you're forced to leave your home and restart your life in a foreign country? What do you need when you've left almost everything behind?

Our participants arrive in Hong Kong with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the few possessions they were able to bring with them. Without opportunities to earn an income (refugees are generally not allowed to work in Hong Kong) and with only a small monthly stipend to live on (HK$1,500 for rent, HK$1,200 for food), our participants struggle to afford even the most basic necessities to keep their families healthy. Learn about some of the most common items our participants need.

As a small nonprofit, we do not have the capacity to sort through items nor the space to store them. Please contact us at info@runhk.org to check that we are able use your donations before dropping them off!

Sport Clothing & Gear

Sport is at the core of our programmes and is an important way for our participants (adults and children alike) to rehabilitate from past trauma and build mental and physical strength. All of our participants need the appropriate sports wear to keep them properly supported, comfortable, and performing to their absolute best. Please note that due to hygiene reasons, we can only accept items that are new or very gently used. Items we typically need include:

  • Swimsuits (must be new)

  • Sportswear such as (male & female) shorts, T-shirts, sweaters, and sports bras

  • Water bottles (must be new)

Food

Food is closely connected to mental health. A nutritious diet can help to significantly improve mood, focus, and symptoms of depression and anxiety. Having limited or uncertain access to healthy food can exacerbate trauma by creating an additional source of chronic stress. We provide healthy snacks and meals during all of our programmes and distribute food items for our participants to cook at home and keep their families healthy. Food items we often need include:

  • Pantry staples such as rice, pasta, beans, lentils, cooking oil, and milk

  • Canned food such as tuna, tomatoes, corn, beans

  • Snacks such as biscuits

Hygiene Items & Cleaning Supplies

Many of our participants live in cramped shared spaces, so having access to hygiene items and cleaning supplies can make a big difference to help them stay clean, healthy, and live life with dignity. Items we typically need include:

  • Shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper

  • Menstrual pads of all sizes

  • Dish and laundry detergent, home cleaning supplies

  • PPE such as children's masks and mini hand sanitiser

  • Diapers (size L/XL) and wet wipes

Gift Vouchers

One of the best ways to support participants is by giving them the choice to buy what they need for themselves. We give out gift vouchers during the Christmas holidays, in preparation for departure to start a new life abroad, and for other special occasions

We accept gift vouchers in denominations of HK$300 from Wellcome, H&M, and Decathlon.

  • Become a Monthly Donor

Our monthly donors help us stay on pace to continue the important work of supporting our participants' immediate needs and healing, while pursuing long-term solutions to help them start a new life.

  • Fundraise for RUN

When you fundraise for RUN, you not only give us the resources to continue serving vulnerable refugees, you also help to spread the word about the situation facing refugees in Hong Kong and connect your friends and family to our work.

“Your support means a lot to us. Our food stipend is very restrictive, and we run out of food quickly. We also don’t have access to cleaning supplies and laundry detergent. You cannot imagine how much happiness your donation brings us, because no one else is helping us to buy clothes and other necessities from the supermarket. Your help is greatly appreciated.”
